眾所矚目的希臘紓困案公投，最終計票結果顯示，61.31%的選民，對歐盟與國際貨幣基金債權人，提出的新撙節要求「說不」，也讓希臘脫離歐元區的疑慮大增，歐盟主席表示遺憾。但希臘總理齊普拉斯表示，公投結果不必然是要脫離歐洲，而是有助於希臘跟債權人擬定更可行的方案。
雅典街頭成千上萬人高喊OXI，慶祝「說不」，在公投中獲得壓倒性勝利，根據已經開出的所有票，高達61%的希臘民眾對歐盟債權國開出的紓困條件投下否決票，這樣一來希臘退出歐元區的疑慮大增，為市場投下震撼彈，歐元兌美元盤中一度觸及1.0967美元低點，美股期指也應聲重挫，日股一度下跌超過330點。
希臘勇於說不，總理齊普拉斯表示，這並不必然代表將要退出歐元區，而是要與債權人協商更有可行性的方案，希臘總理齊普拉斯：「你們下了很勇敢的決定，我充分體認你們的授權，不是脫離歐洲，而是授權去強化我們的協商，去尋求符合社會正義的可執行方案。」
希臘左派政府以民主自居，把債權人的要求視為勒索，要求將過去5年，希臘總值約2400億歐元的貸款減免三成，還債期也推延到20年後，而歐洲央行在公投過後的隔天，就要決定是不是提供緊急紓困金給希臘，一旦歐盟也說不，希臘倒債金額增加，最後還是得退出歐元區，自己改印舊的貨幣德拉克馬應急。
